Blog Tour: The Last Storm by Tim Lebbon

 Hello, everyone! Today I am a part of the blog tour for Tim Lebbon's new and upcoming 2022 release, THE LAST STORM. The Last Storm will be released on July 19th and it is one that you definitely want to grab a copy of! The Last Storm focuses on several points of view in the Desert landscape of America that has been dramatically altered by the lack of rain and destructive fires that are prevalent in the 2030 decade time period this book is set in. This novel is eco-horror and focuses on characters connected to two Rainmakers. You would think that Rainmakers can save the world from this drought, but nope, when they bring rain they also bring monsters from the world that tap into to drag the rain from. This is a new release you don't want to miss! The commentary on global warming, Nature, and how the earth is destroyed by humanity's recklessness and selfishness offers a fresh take with a beloved trope of kids with powers (who eventually become reckless adults with powers). I am so happy to be a part of this tour and read some new eco-horror (a genre that I have been wanting to read more from). Tim Lebbon also has an extensive backlist and is quite loved in the horror community. Christopher Golden says that this novel is a "Grim, dusty Americana, family drama, near future novel. The best thing he's ever done!" I love that quote and think it captures the essence of this novel well. I actually own a few Lebbon books and will definitely be reading them soon as I am greatly enjoying this one. Today I will be recommending books with themes and vibes similar to The Last Storm and if you like or love these ten books, then you have to check out The Last Storm! 

TEN BOOKS SIMILAR TO THE LAST STORM

  

Lilith's Brood trilogy by Octavia E. Butler- One of my favorite things about this trilogy is the questioning of humanity's destruction of the earth and its consequences for its carelessness. This theme is super prevalent in The Last Storm and we see the effects of humanity's lack of care in the shift of weather patterns due to global warming.

Sundial by Catriona Ward- One thing that both Sundial and The Last Storm do is the Desert as a character. I love this and you can feel the heat coming off of the page.

Desperation by Stephen King- Again we have the Desert as a character, but we also have something dark lurking around and while The Last Storm doesn't have a main villain, the creepy crawlies from another world do play a part.

  

To Be Devoured by Sara Tantlinger- This is a weird novella with a character obsessed with vultures who eventually turns to cannibalizing her lesbian partner, so the vibes are different, but the concept of desert animals are there and I feel like the friendship with Cee and Ash in The Last Storm is similar to this relationship explored (just a lot darker and more toxic). 

He Started It by Samantha Downing-  This is a thriller novel all about roadtrips and toxic family dynamics. The Last Storm has two parents who hate each other finding a child and one of them thought they murdered their child, so super toxic. 

The Elementals by Michael McDowell- This novel is set in the heat of the summer and The Last Storm is set in the Desert in the oppressive heat. It's getting hot, hot, hot!

   

Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler- This book has a large portion of traveling in a desolate America and The Last Storm has so much of this. This novel immediately came to mind the more I read this novel.

The Lightest Object in the Universe by Kimi Eisele- This novel focuses on the end of the world due to disease and global warming and while disease isn't a major part of The Last Storm the global warming part is.

Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer- A fabulous eco-horror/ nature takes over novel and The Last Storm is in a similar vein.

Firestarter by Stephen King- The typical kids with powers novel involving pyrokenesis and The Last Storm focuses on being able to pull rain from another world.
