January- March Books I Have Recently Purchased

Hey, everyone! I figured that I should post some of the books that I have recently acquired since the beginning of 2022. I have stopped buying as many books recently, but I was still acting foolish at the bookstore when I could. I also had COVID in January, so I didn't get to spend my birthday money until a month after my birthday. I am currently in the process of moving items and a lot of books have to be in storage, so it takes a while.

THE BOOKS I BOUGHT IN JANUARY:

Happiness Volume 9 by Shuzo Oshimi- This is where Kindle Unlimited stopped carrying the books in the series, so I spent that $10 to own them. LOL I love this series, so it's worth it. EBOOK 5 stars
Happiness Volume 10 by Shuzo Oshimi- A great finale to a wonderful horror manga series. It was a wonderful read and I like the lighter ending. It was hopeful. EBOOK 5 stars
Snow by Ronald Malfi- Malfi is a huge hit with horror lovers and I have yet to read one of his works. I saw that he had posted on Books of Horror when the ebook was on sale for cheap, so I jumped on purchasing a copy. EBOOK CR
Left to You by Daniel J. Volpe- This book is highly praised in the Books of Horror group and I caved. I had to read it. I am so glad I did. It is a wonderful story about a Holocaust survivor who stumbles upon evil left behind from Auschwitz. A truly heartbreaking read. Highly recommend. Paperback 5  stars
Winterset Hollow by Jonathan Edward Durham- I am obsessed with the cover for this book. I can't wait to read it. It sounds like a blend with fantasy and horror and I love that kind of stuff. I hope I am obsessed with it. Paperback
The Razorblades in My Head by Donnie Goodman- This is a wonderful throwback cover and honestly, that's why I bought it. It's a short story collection and I love those, so hoping this one is good. Paperback
The Ruins by Scott Smith- This is a well-loved horror novel and one I hadn't heard about until probably a year ago when I really started to dive into the genre outside of Stephen King. This has mixed reviews, but I am fascinated by the premise. Paperback
Heart of the Fae by Emma Hamm- I love fantasy romance novels especially the fae ones. I gobble that stuff up. Give me all the faerie romance recs, please. Paperback
The Ritual by Adam Nevill- This is a book I am highly anticipating and hoping it's right up my cult and folk horror obsessed mind. I enjoyed Nevill's No One Gets Out Alive and it has some of those elements with a ghost twist to it. I can't wait to read this one. Paperback
Penpal by Dathan Auerbach- This was recommended to me years ago on my YouTube channel and it is well loved by the Books of Horror group. Sounds like a fun creepypasta novel. I'm always down for that. Paperback
Gone to See the River Man by Kristopher Triana- I have heard great praises about this author and this book comes highly recommended in the extreme horror sections on BookTube and Books of Horror. I am curious about it. Paperback
Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand- I have enjoyed Furyborn by Legrand and now that I am embracing my horror era fully and reading widely this is one I had to get. Hardcover
The Devil of Nanking by Mo Hayder- I remember Katie from ChapterStackss loving this and recently Jordaline Reads was talking about it. It's exactly my type of novel. Paperback
Starve Acre by Andrew Michael Hurley- I heard this is like a horror fantasy and I'm totally here for that. Paperback
Blood on the Tracks Volume 7 by Shuzo Oshimi- This series is wild. It gets darker and darker. Paperback 5 stars
String Follow by Simon Jacobs- I have no clue what this book is or even what is about. I saw it at B&N and the plot sounded interesting when I read it, but I don't remember what it's about. It's a new release, so I am always looking to read those without knowing anything. Paperback
Maus I: A Survivor's Tale: My Father Bleeds History by Art Spiegleman- This book is gaining a lot of traction with it being challenge and banned in schools. It's been on my to read list for years, so I decided it was time to hunt down a copy. I luckily found one at my local B&N. It was worth it. Paperback 5 stars
Psycho by Robert Bloch- I have seen the movie and loved Bates Motel, but I have yet to read this famous classic about Norman Bates. Paperback

Devil House by John Darnielle- This is a new release I am excited for. It sounds so good. Hardcover/eARC
Sex Cult Nun: Breaking Away from the Children of God, a Wild, Radical, Religious Cult by Faith Jones- Years ago I had the flu and came across this series  on Hulu about cults. The scariest cult to me was the Children of God. I am happy to see Faith Jones publish a memoir on her life because that documentary was terrifying. Hardcover CR
The Beast in Aisle 34 by Darrin Doyle- This cover is ridiculous, but I saw werewolf on the back and was sold. I don't read a ton of horror comedy. I am hoping this makes me chuckle. Paperback

Bunny by Mona Awad- I read Bunny years ago and recently want to buy my own copy and reread. I  had the perfect excuse when I joined Katie Colson's Smut Salon and it was our February pick. This book is one of my absolute favorites. A perfect novel. Paperback 5 stars
Mestiza Blood by V. Castro- I read an ARC of this collection and bought a finished copy. I have reread a couple of the stories since then. This is one of my favorite short story collections. Obsessed. Paperback/eARC 4 stars
The Girl Who Speaks Bear by Sophie Anderson- Gavin from How to Train Your Gavin talked so highly about this book and MG is not my thing, but I do enjoy it from time to time. Paperback

Not bad stats. :)

THE BOOKS I BOUGHT IN FEBRUARY:

The Worm and His Kings by Hailey Piper- I bought this for Jordaline's Patreon Book Club. I love cosmic horror, but this was not a loved one for me. Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes- I am so excited to read this one. Underwater horror is my JAM. Hardcover
Queen of Teeth by Hailey Piper- This sounds like a wild time. Think of the movie Teeth, but I think with cosmic horror. While I didn't love The Worm and His Kings, I have loved some of Piper's stories, so I have hope. Paperback

Sour Candy by Kealan Patrick Burke- I love cosmic horror and a good novella. This one worked for me and it was eerie. I loved the character deteriorating from the inside out and whether it's all true or in his head. This gave me Shinigami vibes from DeathNote. Paperback 4 stars

The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James- I loved The Sun Down Motel, but I was so happy to see she was writing a true crime ghosty novel. It was also a BOTM pick, so YAY! Hardcover
The Christie Affair by Nina de Gramont- This sounded like it was about when Agatha Christie went missing for several days, but now I'm learning it's not that. I will give some of it a read and if I don't like DNF it will be. Hardcover
I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys- I love Sepetys YA Historicals. They make me weep and move me. I saw this was an add-on for BOTM and I snagged it. Can't wait to be WRECKED. I'll probably check out the audiobook as well because her audiobooks her gold mines. Hardcover

Books Given Away from Those Bought This Year: 1 (bye, bye The Worm and His Kings one of my students will love you.)

So, that's my quarterly wrap-up of books I've bought this year. I so far only have bought two books in April from BOTM and it will probably stay that way unless I get a preorder. I am not planning to buy any books until I move back home because I need to conserve space. Let me know if you loved any of these books and think I should read them RIGHT NOW!
