The Turing Test by Beth Revis
3.5 stars
Elektra Shepherd takes the Turing test to determine if the subjects, Blue or Red, are human or A.I. (robot). I personally think that if Revis wrote as entertainingly as she did with this short story, I would've immensely enjoyed Across the Universe. My problem with Across the Universe was predictability and Revis's writing lacked in capturing my attention, but this short story is absolutely stunning. It's probably one of the best short stories I've ever read. It's brief, but thought-out and thought provoking. Questions are asked repeatedly throughout that pose interesting possibilities and I loved the ending! I wish the other Revis book I read had been this good, but since I haven't read the other two in the trilogy I have hope that her writing is this entrancing and heart pounding.

ReplyDeleteI went over to read the short story and OMG. DAT STORY. My mind is so twisted right now but that was so amazing. It was lots of explanation and some parts I zoned when she was asking about something and what not, but then again, I don't have much patience reading on the computer screen. But aside from that, that was awesome. I loved how I thought she was human but then you find out something else...
^_^ Haha I miss your funny comments! I do need to post more. I'm trying!
DeleteI know! It was pretty awesome! I was so surprised. :O I'm scatterbrained when reading on the computer as well, but I really enjoyed the story so it was easy to understand what was going on.
It's great to see that Beth Revis is improving in her writing. I don't think I liked her Across the Universe trilogy, I'm pretty sure I gave up in the middle of the last book, haha. It got pretty boring after a while, tbh. Anyways, great review and I tagged you in the Book Blogger TMI Tag!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Summer! I wasn't that impressed by her book I read, but this was a really good story. I'm curious to see what else she can write and if she writes well.
