Manga Monday #1: Hot Gimmick
MANGA
MONDAY!
This is my first Manga Monday! I'm excited to participate! Manga Mondays is hosted by Alison Can Read!
Hot Gimmick Volumes 1-3 by Miki Aihara
5 stars
Hot Gimmick centers around Hatsumi Narita, a high-school girl who is one of the tenants in her father’s company apartment complex. Mrs. Tachibiana rules the complex and Hatsumi does everything she can to stay out of her way. Hatsumi buys a pregnancy test when her little sister has a pregnancy scare and Mrs. Tachibana’s son, Ryoki, Hatsumi’s childhood bully, sees her with the test. He promises not tell her secret if she becomes his slave. Then Azusa, Hatumi’s childhood friend appears and saves the day. As romance starts to bloom between Hatsumi and Azusa, Ryoki does everything in his power to make sure that Hatsumi remembers that he knows her secret. I can see why a lot of people don’t like Hot Gimmick. It is a pretty trashy manga series, but it is one of my all-time favorites. I prefer my manga trashy and out there. Hot Gimmick is fun and it is full of drama. I love drama and manga dram is always the best. I personally didn’t like Azusa and I always had a soft spot for Ryoki. I think Hatsumi is probably one of the dumbest heroines ever and she is so naïve, but I also love her and her dramatic life. This isn’t very sophisticated manga, but it’s fun and trashy! I think I may reread this series!
Cover Thoughts: I have the omnibus version, but I absolutely love the covers. They are so vibrant and fun!
