Hey, everyone! I know that 2020 is over, but here is my last round of books that I acquired in the months of November and December. Not nearly as many as in October which is the month I went off and absolutely insane with my book buying. So, let's dive into the books I got in the last two months of 2020.
THE BOOKS I GOT IN NOVEMBER:
Wreck My Life by Mo Isom- I just finished reading Sex, Jesus, and the Conversations the Church Forgot and while reading it I wanted to know more about Mo's story and how radically her life was changed after her dad killed himself and she almost died in a car accident.
Chronicles of Narnia Box Set by C.S. Lewis- Would you believe I never owned these books? I've read the first two and I wanted to finally get the series. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe- 5 stars; Prince Caspian-4.25 stars
A Stolen Life by Jacyee Dugard- I bought this because I was supposed to participate in the True Crime Book Club for the month of November and I didn't get around to this one. I still plan on reading it!
The Ravenous by Amy Lukavics- I love Lukavics' YA horror books and Daughters Unto Devils is one of my favorite horror settings. I wanted to pick up another one of her books. This one is about cannibals.
Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine- Caine passed away at the end of the year after her battle with cancer. I have been meaning to read this one, so I decided to get it and hope to read it at some point soon.
The Auctioneer by Joan Samson- I really love this cover and I've been hearing so much about it lately. It was the least horror book of the Paperbacks from Hell series out of the three I have read so far, but I really liked the suspense and build. 4.25 stars
Familiar Spirit by Lisa Tuttle- This cover is extra and over the top. I hate it, but lowkey love it at the same time. HAHAHA
These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong- This was my BOTM pick for December and I've heard so many good things about it. I'm not in the mood for it right now, but I am happy to have it on hand.
What Lies Between Us by John Marrs- I was sold on this one when I heard Gabby mention it on her channel and I've never heard of this one. I immediately bought it and I'm so in the mood for it right now.
Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse- I was so excited for my ARC of this book, but for some reason I couldn't get into it on my phone so I bought my own copy. My first 5-star read of 2021!! AMAZING!
The One by John Marrs- I saw Lala talk about this when she read another BookTuber's favorite book and it sounded amazing. I bought it on a whim cause I saw it on display at BooksAMillion. I didn't even realize I bought two John Marrs in the same month. LOL I still haven't read him yet, but I'm hyped to.
Ghost Story by Peter Straub- I got this one super cheap and it has a banging new edition. I've always been curious about this author, but I've never read anything by him.
The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager- I read an ARC of this book and it was my introduction to Riley Sager. Oh, how I love it so much. I only have one more left by him to own, but I've read them all. 5 stars
Who Killed These Girls? by Beverly Lowry- The Austin Yogurt Shop Murders are most parents and small town's worst nightmare. I didn't know about the case and bought the book. After watching Stephanie Harlowe's deep dive into the case I am definitely excited to read this one.
Until the End by Christopher Pike- This is the Final Friends trilogy and I read it years ago and was a fan of it. I didn't love it, but I liked it. I bought a copy to read to see if I wanted to put in my classroom. The answer is no. A hard no. 1.5 stars for the series
THE BOOKS I GOT IN DECEMBER:
Toxic Faith by Stephen Arterburn & Jack Felton- I want to read this one like right now. I think I'm going to star this one as soon as I have some time.
The Dream of You by Jo Saxton- I'm going to tell everyone the issue with Christian publishing- specifically with for women, but this goes across the board- all the books are written by white blonde or brunettes. I get excited when I see people of color or different backgrounds published because I don't see it often. I haven't read anything by Saxton yet, but I've seen her plans on the Bible app and I'm happy that I own this one. I want to support more Black Christian women writers.
Saints by Addison D. Bevere- I don't know if I will like this one, but I am obsessed with the cover. I am also super curious about this one.
Nice by Sharon Hodde Miller- I'm really curious about this one because it deconstructs society's obsession with being nice and how it's a false reaction to people.
Befriending Your Monsters by Luke Norsworthy- I keep seeing this one every time I go to Mardel and I decided to buy a copy.
Your Prophetic Life Map by Steve Witt- This one sounds interesting and like it's up my alley. I hope it's a good one since I also bought a copy for my best friend.
Twelve Extraordinary Women by John MacArthur- One of my favorite topics is women in the Bible. I've heard good things about MacArthur's commentary, so I'm interested in checking this one out.
Slightly Bad Girls of the Bible by Liz Curtis Higgs- I am reading this ironically. LOL It looks like it will be problematic, but again I'm open to hearing and reading commentary from all angles on the topic of women in the Bible.
Brave Surrender by Kim Walker-Smith- I love this song, so yes, I bought this book for that reason.
God's Smuggler by Brother Andrew- I am so fascinated by learning from persecuted Christians who die or come to close to dying for their faith. This one has great reviews and is beloved, so I'm hoping it'll remind me of Bonhoeffer, which is fantastic.
Forgiving My Father, Forgiving Myself by Ruth Graham- No comment.
Star of Persia by Jill Eileen Smith- I got an ARC of this one. I'm so excited about this one.
The End of Magi by Patrick W. Carr- This sounds so interesting and I think I'm going to save it for December this year! (If I remember to get to it, but it's the most Christmas book I own LOL)
The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond by Jamie Jo Wright- This one sounds interesting and I hope I like it! It's not my usual read, but it sounds promising.
The Curse of Misty Wayfair by Jamie Jo Wright- This sounds so creepy and interesting. I wasn't expecting to find this, but it sounds like a creepy time and setting.
One More River to Cross by Jane Kirkpatrick- This is similar to the Donner Party, but without the cannibalism. I'm curious about it and the cover is stunning.
Romanov by Nadine Brandes- This is a book I've been wanting to read since before it came out because I love learning about the Romanov's and what happened. I'm always down for an alternate reality especially in a fantasy setting.
The Girl Behind the Red Rope by Ted and Rachelle Dekker- This sounds so good! I want to love it because it's sounds right up my alley and the cover is stunning.
ESV Illuminated Scripture Journal Old Testament set- Merry Christmas to me! I love the Old Testament and these editions are stunning. I can't wait to journal and have a wonderful time with them.
People Like Her by Ellery Lloyd- This was my BOTM pick for December because it sounds so much fun and I've heard bad things about it, but I'm hoping I won't hate it.
Legendborn by Tracy Deonn- This was one of my anticipated books of 2020 and I was so excited to see it offered as a BOTM addon. Super excited for this one.
Bury Me Deep by Christopher Pike- This was one of my favorites Pike books back in the day. I still remember the whole plot and I want to reread it.
Chain Letter by Christopher Pike- I started Chain Letter, but only read like ten pages when I was a kid. I'm curious about these duology because so many people loved it growing up.
Remember Me Box Set by Christopher Pike- Look at how pretty these new additions are. I am obsessed with them! I can't stop looking at the illustrations and how pretty they are.
Love Comes Softly by Janette Oke- This is far from my usual genre, but it was a signed Christmas present and I really love it. I think I will like this one!
Summer at Firefly Beach by Jenny Hale- Another one that is not my genre, but I got this as a Secret Santa gift at work and I'm willing to try it.
Secrets of a Prayer Warrior by Derek Prince- A gift I got for Christmas from my mom and I'm really excited to dive into this one.
Little Lost Angel by Michael Quin- Shanda Sharer's case makes me weep a thousand tears.
Reflections on the Psalms by C.S. Lewis- I love Lewis and I got this as a gift from my mom. It was very unexpected, but I'm excited to read it.
The Holy Spirit in You by Derek Prince- This one sounds super interesting and it was another gift that I got for Christmas.
The Walking Dead Compendium One by Robert Kirkman- I have been wanting this for years and it is one of my favorite Christmas gifts I got this year. So cool! It's a beast!
One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp- This is that book that everyone talks about having read, but I don't know why it's so famous. LOL I have a copy of it now to find out.
The Promise His Presence by Glenna Marshall- I'm obsessed with this cover. That is why I bought this and I won't even lie about it.
Open and Unafraid by W. David O. Taylor- I got an ARC of this book and didn't get around to it because work was busy, but I'm glad I found a physical copy of this because HOLY WOW the cover is beautiful.
Made to Move Mountains by Kristen Welch- This book is so beautiful that it makes me want to cry. I hope the inside is just as stunning.
Less Than Perfect by Ann Spangler- This looks so interesting because it seems to be a character study on a wide variety of Bible characters and a lot of them aren't always talked about, so I'm excited to dive in!
Healing Together by Anne Marie Miller- This was a God sent book and I am so excited to read it because this is where God has called me to help and listen to people who have been through this situation and are hurting.
Fire! by James Levesque- I started this book when I got an eARC on my computer, but my copy expired. I was excited when I saw it for $5 at Mardel.
Garden of Truth by Ruth Chou Simons- I really enjoyed this book. It was exactly what I needed and I'm glad it was one of my last books that I read in 2020. 4 stars
