The Dark Light by Sara Walsh

The Dark Light

For the awesome spoilery review check it out here on GOODREADS!
The Dark Light by Sara Walsh

3.75 stars

For as long as Mia Stone can remember she has seen lights in Crownsville, Nebraska. No one has ever talked about it and it’s just something everyone accepts. Until boys from neighboring towns go missing and Mia sees a cloaked figure in the light. One day, Sol arrives. Mia thinks nothing of it, but while she’s hanging out with her friends she sees a tattoo on his back. Her little brother has the same tattoo. Questions begin to run through Mia’s mind and then Jay goes missing. Mia’s convinced Sol is hiding something from her and she’ll stop at nothing to find Jay. If you’ve read the actual summary on Goodreads, Amazon, or anyplace with The Dark Light’s summary, you’ll have seen the big printed open headway.
Mia is torn between two guys—and two worlds—in this epic, romantic fantasy.
Do not listen to this. It is a lie. OK? Don’t believe me? Trust me and about five other reviews I skimmed that said the same thing. I’m just reiterating it. This is definitely a hard book to rate. It’s not a hard book to like or maybe even for some love. I enjoyed it at times and others I would find myself drifting in and out of caring. This book isn’t short and it’s wordy at times, but it doesn’t bog down the story. There were a few info dumps but they weren’t really big info dumps that are hard to get past or make sense of. Walsh creates a beautiful world and I’m just not exactly sure what I feel for it a 100%.

The main female character is Mia. I liked Mia, but I didn’t love her. For a good quarter of the book I really liked her and then the main plotline falls into place and I started to feel as lost and disoriented as Mia. I didn’t like her as much. She was still interesting, but she lost some of her spunk. She did regain it back again, but I just didn’t connect with her the whole entire time. She was a good sister and that’s probably her best trait/ quality. She always put Jay before herself and that’s admirable in a YA heroine. Not very many older siblings in YA have a believable relationship with their sibling.

Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 8

The main male character is Sol. I wish I could say Sol is swoon worthy, but he isn’t when we are first introduced to him. My first thoughts of him were that he was a cold and it was a turn off. I found myself liking him a lot more towards the ending, but I don’t think I’ll be writing his name on a notebook anytime soon. Sol was lacking in that swoon worthy charisma charm that I love from book boys. He did have a few moments where he would have those little moments, but they were easily thrown out the window. There’s an age 14 and up warning on my jacket’s flap. I find this warning very misleading. Usually when there’s this warning it means sexy time. (view spoiler)

Swoon Worthy Scale: 6.5
The Villain- In all honesty the villain is a pretty cardboard cutout of a villain. Yea, he’s done some pretty terrible stuff, but nothing during the course of the book other than (view spoiler) I wasn’t really put off by him in anyway and I don’t fear him. I feel like if he was in a great villain battle he would be one of those villains that just couldn’t hang and Voldemort would Advada Kadavira him or just break his wand in front of the entire legion of Death Eaters.

I think if he would’ve done something shocking like I don’t know sacrifice virgins, it wouldn’t even been a lot more scary. Think about it. That scared me to death when I read about in the Fallen Angels series. It isn’t cool, but it was a good tactical plot to make me afraid of the villain.

Villain Scale: 6

There wasn’t a huge cast of characters but there was a few. Willie, Mia’s best friend, she’s a girl by the way. I hope Willie is short for Wilma or some really old name because I would hate my parents if they named me that. I liked Willie, but in all honesty she was just there. I didn’t care for half the stuff that she said and her wittiness didn’t charm me. There’s Jay, Mia’s brother, I think he’s cute. We don’t really get to see much of him. I think it would be cool if we got (view spoiler) Seriously, don’t read that spoiler unless you’ve read the book. Delane is Sol’s best friend and I guess he may have been the guy that the heading of the summary was implying but even Mia laughed at the prospect of that when Sol mentioned it. Delane was cool, but he’s far too in lust with Vermillion to see anything else. I did really like him though. Speaking of Vermillion, I think her character is freaking awesome. I’ve never heard of a species like hers before and I found her interesting and new.

Character Scale: 9

This is a very fantasy like book, but it isn’t high fantasy. The world of Brakaland is absolutely stunning and Walsh did an excellent job of creating creatures that creeped me out. I don’t want to run into a visage demon at all. I want to see more well done concepts like this. I do come across them, but not often. This is just a concept that I really liked. I’m not a hundred percent sure what the lights had to do with Brakaland and the Barrier. I’m sure they mentioned it and I zoned out. If anyone could clear that up for me it would be nice. This book was good, but not great. I thought I would be blown away and I wasn’t. I was also surprised though since this book is completely different from what I expected it to be, but in a good way. It’s hard to say exactly how I feel about The Dark Light. I liked it a lot, but didn’t love it. Some things did blow me away though. Definitely give this book a shot. I know it looks paranormal, but it’s more fantasy. Not a fan of fantasy? Don't let that stop you either because it is a good book.

Cover Thoughts: The cover is absolutely beautiful. I love the cover. I think it’s the tattoo. I love covers with tattoos on them especially if they are on a guy. I mean have you seen the Lords of the Underworld covers? Muscley-backs for the win!

All Over You by Emily Snow

All Over You (Devoured, #0.5)

All Over You by Emily Snow

Devoured prequel

4.5 stars

Before Sienna was devoured, before Lucas was consumed, they were all over each other . . . Lucas Wolfe gets what he wants and that’s the way it should be when you’re a famous rock star. He wasn’t expecting to be attracted to the new wardrobe assistant and he wants her more than he’s ever wanted anyone. Sienna is lucky to have gotten this job and she obediently responds to Lucas with “Yes, Mr. Wolfe” even when told the most blushable things. Three days is all it takes before their story starts. I didn’t know what I was expecting with All Over You. I had first seen the cover Devoured so long ago and knew immediately that I needed to read it. I recently purchased a Kindle and this one is a freebie so I downloaded. I absolutely loved this novella.

The main female character is Sienna. I really like Sienna. She’s funny, smart, and I liked her. I want to know more about her because there were just so many secrets in this novella. I’m sure I would’ve understood these secrets better if I had read Devoured, but I haven’t read it yet.

Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 8.5

The main male character is Lucas.

This man… I’m sure a lot of people don’t like Lucas, but I love him. He reminds so much of Danny Worsnop and Ben Bruce from Asking Alexandria. It’s like being inside of their minds and oh, how I wish to be around those boys.

Lucas is your typical rock star. He gets the ladies, has the asshole attitude, is sexy as hell, and can write and sing a song that would make any girl swoon. I want a rock star boyfriend. Completely unrealistic and not going to happen (one of my friends is dating a guy in a band so it’s not completely unlikely), but I want that. This book made it seem possible. I should mention this though. Lucas likes bondage… a lot. Just so you know. Bondage doesn’t bother me all that much though.

Swoon Worthy Scale: 10

The Villain- This is a novella therefore there isn’t really a villain, but I think I know who’ll cause problems even more in Devoured.

Villain Scale: Nonexistent

I want to see more of the band members and I really liked Lucas’s sister, Sophie. I thought the characters were all funny even though they didn’t play huge parts they all had a presence.

Character Scale: 9

I really want to read Devoured now! This was a lot better than I was expecting. I now have a new book boyfriend. I need that right now after all what I’m dealing with. This novella made me happy again and I need to be happy right now. I can’t wait to read Devoured, but first I need to read some of the purchases I made on my Kindle. But Devoured is first up on my books bought for my Kindle, because I NEED more Lucas!

Cover Thoughts: You may not know this and the guy on the cover probably doesn’t know this either, but he is my future husband. It will happen. I mean look at that guy! He’s absolutely gorgeous. I need a man like that! That girl can go away because he’s is mine. I love his tats and his hair… and his face. God, why is he so damn fine?!

The Fury and Dark Reunion by L.J. Smith

The Fury and Dark Reunion (The Vampire Diaries, #3-4)

The Fury and Dark Reunion by L.J. Smith

Third and fourth in The Vampire Diaries series

5 stars

Elena has changed and she’s no longer human. Stefan is tormented after losing Elena and determined to end the feud with Damon that’s been going on for centuries. Damon finally has claim over Elena. But enemies are popping up and will they be able to overcome their differences to defeat their enemy? The Fury and Dark Reunion are what I consider to be the strongest books in The Vampire Diaries series. There’s more action, it doesn’t drag, there’s swoon worthy boys, romance that’s sizzling, and a good plot and solid story. These two books were sooooooooo good. I read them forever ago, but I still remember them. I still remember the intense feeling of finding a book that I couldn’t put down and I constantly wanted more.

The main female character is once again Elena. This Elena is very different from the previous Elena. I remember struggling to connect to her, but there were times when I could still see the human Elena shining through. I liked her, but not nearly as much.

Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 8

The main male characters are Damon and Stefan.

Yes please! Where do I sign up?

I know I’ve said this before but these boys are just so damn fine. I mean they are swoon worthy, drool worthy boys. Damon is especially swoon worthy, whether he’s in the books are the TV show I love him. Stefan though wasn’t nearly as likable for me in this book. I found myself liking Damon so much more and this is where I started to root for him.

Swoon Worthy Scale: Damon: 9.5 Stefan: 8.5

The Villain- Wouldn’t you like to know?

Villain Scale: 8

Bonnie is my favorite of Elena’s friends. She’s so bubbly and full of life. Meredith and Matt are also back. It was good to start to see Matt move on from Elena. Caroline is still causing trouble, but more this time. I enjoy the side characters and they made the book so much more interesting.

Character Scale: 9

So this is obviously not a very good review, which I apologize about. I find it very hard to type right now. I popped a blood vessel in my left pinky and it hurts to type, but I wanted to write a review. I love The Vampire Diaries and I feel like this was where the series really started to flesh out. I can’t imagine how all those ninety’s teens went through that long excruciating wait because the ending of Dark Reunion was just shocking enough to cause cardiac arrest. I'm going to stop rambling now.

Cover Thoughts: Elena looks like she’s going to kill someone. It’s rather unnerving. I personally don’t like this cover all that much.

Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma

Forbidden

Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma

5 stars- I think…

Lochan and Maya Whitley are thirteen months apart and have always felt more like friends than siblings. They take care of their younger siblings and have become their parents. Their mom has a new boyfriend and is an alcoholic and their father has been absent for five years after the divorce. Lochan and Maya have to grow up fast and don’t experience things most teenagers do. But they’ve discovered something between each other. They’ve fallen in love. They know that their romance is wrong and could end horribly, but they fight for their love desperately. This is a love story that has no happy ending. I don’t know what to say or do. I’m conflicted. I usually wait a couple of days to write a review after reading a book, but I don’t want to wait because this feeling is fresh inside of me. I don’t know what to rate this book. I loved it, but at the same time I couldn’t read too much of it because of the subject. I just… I don’t know. I think I’ll stick with five stars. This book deserves five stars, if not more. I just… this is a book where it leaves you breathless and conflicted and emotional. I’m so emotional right now. I feel as though I’ve experienced the book in real life and real time. This book is hard for people to except. There’s topics in here that people find disgusting and it’s hard for people to push those feelings aside and look at the psychological aspect of this book. I have a hard time accepting Lochan and Maya’s relationship, but at the same time I feel like Suzuma wrote so beautifully and captured feelings and ideas so perfectly that this was believable and it wasn’t disgusting. It was wrong and disturbing but I never once felt like I was going to hurl from what was happening. I in some sick twisted way wanted what Maya wanted. I wanted that happy ending for them, but I knew it wouldn’t happen.

The main female character is Maya. I don’t really like Maya to be honest. But I sympathized with her. I felt sorry for her and her family’s situation. She wasn’t a bad character at all, but I don’t think I’m either supposed to like or hate these characters. Instead of feeling anything for Maya, throughout the book I felt like Maya. That probably doesn’t make any sense, but that’s how I felt and it’s hard to describe.

Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 8 (?) Like I said it’s hard to give this book any sort of rating.

The main male character is Lochan. I thought Lochan was unstable, crazy, borderline bipolar, and in desperate need of mental help. Even though I thought those things I loved Lochan. I’m so conflicted about Lochan and Maya. I don’t know if I liked them or hated them, but I know that I cared for Lochan’s character and that I was broken by the ending because of him.

Swoon Worthy Scale: 8 (?)

The Villain- I guess the mom is the villain. I absolutely hated her. I didn’t understand why she kept coming back if she didn’t want them or even care about them. She was a terrible person. You can’t be a good mom if you’re a bad person and she’s a perfect example of that.

Villain Scale: 8

I loved the little ones. Those kids touched my heart and I cried for them. I loved Kit, Tiffin, and Willa. They were so sweet and the things they made me laugh and cry. I feel like they need a story. They are all so different and I don’t know how they coped with what happened. I need to know how Tiffin and Willa are. I need to know if Kit is still causing trouble or if he is still trying to be “the man of the house”. I want more of these kids and I don’t want to see them go. I feel like they still have a story to be told that’s each their own.

Character Scale: 10

This book is amazing and it’s hard to read at times, but it’s worth it. I’m so glad I read this book. I have been wanting to read this book for a while and I’m so happy that I finally did. I’m not let down and I feel like this book gave me a new look to what we think we see. This book made me realize that not everything is what it seems and that judgments shouldn’t been made unless you know the whole story. I know this isn’t the last time I’ll read Suzuma’s works because she is definitely a great writer.

Cover Thoughts: I love this cover. It’s simple and the heart design is beautiful and fun to trace when I’m bored in class. The red is striking and perfect.

The Van Alen Legacy by Melissa de la Cruz

The Van Alen Legacy (Blue Bloods, #4)

The Van Alen Legacy by Melissa de la Cruz

Fourth in the Blue Bloods series

4 stars

At the end of Revelations, Bliss Llewllyn discovered she was Lucifer and Allegra’s daughter and was harboring a sinister Silver Blood. A year later, Schuyler van Alen is on the run from the Venators after being suspected of killing her own grandfather in Rio during the epic battle that took place. Mimi Force is a Venatore searching for Jordan Llewllyn, Bliss’s younger sister in this cycle. Mimi struggles with her attraction and growing love for Silver Blood, Kingsley Martin. Bliss is fighting a dangerous battle with Lucifer for her body and mind. The Van Alen Legacy lacked something compared to the previous three books. This book didn’t keep me nearly as entranced and took me a while to read. The first half was slow and dragged on a lot. The last half was amazing and I sped through it hungrily. I loved that ending though. It was so good and heart stopping. I literally caught my breath a few times and my knuckles turned white from clutching the book tight. One of my favorite things about de la Cruz’s series is that she has a lot of really good twists and turns. There is a lot of timeline jumping in her books and some people struggle with keeping up, but I actually really enjoy those time jumps.

The main female characters are yet again Schuyler, Bliss, and Mimi. I’ve always hated Mimi, but she started to grow on me the last book, but in this book she won me over and became my favorite POV of The Van Alen Legacy. She wasn’t her usual Mimi Force self. We got to see another side of her, a real side of her, not the fake, vain, vindictive, and manipulative Mimi from the previous books. I like this Mimi a lot. She had the best storyline, too. I feel like with every book Mimi’s role gets stronger and stronger (I still stand by that because I’ve read all six books and have the seventh). Schuyler and Bliss were interesting, but Schuyler isn’t as interesting as she usually is. She was good but nothing like, “OMG, I need more of her POV! Let me read more chapters so I can get to hers.” Bliss- I still like her and I think I always will. I really want to read her spinoff series before starting the last book.

Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: Schuyler: 7.5 Mimi: 9 Bliss: 8

The boys didn’t disappoint either. There’s Kingsley, Jack, and Oliver. I absolutely LOVE Kingsley. He is my man in these books. I adore him and swoon over him and he’s absolutely perfect. Just thinking about him makes me jump up and down girlishly inside. KINGSLEY MARTIN IS PERFECTION! He is one Silver Blood I wouldn’t mind running away with. *swoons* Jack grows on me in some books and then in others he is very mehish for me. I can never decide if I like him or hate him. Same with Oliver. I know he won’t end up with Schuyler, but I love Oliver and think he deserves a happy ending. Sadly no girl has been provided in any of the books for Oliver except Schuyler. I personally don’t want to see him wallow over her for the rest of his life.

Swoon Worthy Scale: Jack: 7.5 Kingsley: 9.5 Oliver: 8.5

The Villain- I just love the villains and twists in this series. So go pick up the series and find out how good it is. Already trying to persuade readers and not even done reviewing yet? Yep, that’s what I do.

Villain Scale: 8

Character Scale: 8.5

Long story short these books are amazing and perfect and I love them. Even though this one lacked immensely compared to other books I still liked it. I actually enjoyed it because of the last 50%. I’m sure if I didn’t have that 50% I wouldn’t have liked it nearly as much. De la Cruz always is able to win me over when it comes to her books.

Cover Thoughts: I like this cover. It’s graceful, subtle, and beautiful. Really it’s a very stunning cover. I didn’t get to enjoy looking at because there was something on the girl’s eye on my copy. I hate when that happens to library books. Anyway I like the cover a lot, but it’s not the best of the covers for this series.

P.s. I've been nominated for the Liebaster Blog Award. I'm very flattered, but I don't have the time at this moment to respond to the award.

Forever Mine by Elizabeth Reyes

Forever Mine (The Moreno Brothers, #1)

Forever Mine by Elizabeth Reyes

First in the Moreno Brothers series

4 stars

Sarah’s life is turned upside down when her mom is sent to jail and she is sent to La Jolla, California to live with her aunt and cousin. She leaves her best friend Sydney behind and it’s the last thing she wants to do. She wasn’t expecting to fall for anyone especially not swoon worthy Angel Moreno. Angel is a lady’s man and he doesn’t do serious relationships until he sees Sarah. Angel believes that boys and girls can’t be just friends. He doesn’t know that Sydney is a girl and Sarah is struggling to find a way to find to tell him. This is considered Mature YA. Not New Adult although I think this would appeal greatly to fans of New Adult. I went into this book thinking it would be like Perfect Chemistry. I absolutely love Perfect Chemistry and it’s one of my favorite YAs ever. The tale was beautiful and since Angel is Mexican I was hoping he would sweep me off my feet like the Fuentes boys did. This book is nothing like Perfect Chemistry at all. There are no gangs, no Mexican talk, and just random teen drama. This book is complete and total fluff. You can’t read too much into this book because it’s not one of those books to be analyzed. The characters though were infuriating.

The main female character is Sarah. Whooohooo!

A female lead with my name and exact spelling which I don’t come by all too often in the genres of books I read. I thought Sarah would be awesome and that she would be fleshed out, but she lacked depth. I couldn’t connect with her at all. She’s just plain flat out stupid. She’s way too trusting of people to the point of sheer stupidity. The whole coach incident that was supposed to be the climax was laughable and I thought Sarah was just so stupid.

She honestly needs to reevaluate her life and her perception of people.

Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 7.5

The main male character is Angel.

No, not that kind of Angel. Hehe I couldn’t resist. Anyway Angel is no Alex. Sadly. I don’t know exactly how I feel about Angel. Angel is a he-man all the way, but he isn’t an attractive he-man. Sometimes alpha males are really hot, but Angel isn’t one of them. Angel is just OK. I do have to agree with him with the guy and girl can never be just friends thing. I’m proof. I wish I had the nerve to tell him how I felt. But you don’t need to know my life story.

Swoon Worthy Scale: 7.5

The Villain- BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA! Yes, CAPS is necessary. That was the saddest excuse of a villain. He was just thrown in the give the story some substance. It was completely pointless.

Villain Scale: 4

I loved all the side characters. They were so much more interesting than Angel and Sarah. Sofia and Eric’s relationship was so cute and I can’t wait to read about their story. But let’s face it Alex and Valerie’s drama was the most interesting thing in this whole book. I can’t wait to read about them because I like Alex and I think he’s awesome. Romero was really funny and was good comic relief. Sydney wasn’t half bad and he was a good friend, but I wasn’t all that interested in him.

Character Scale: 8.5

This isn’t a bad book at all. In fact I enjoyed it. It was good fluff and typical YA contemporary with some sexy time thrown in. I liked the ending and it was a lot more believable than some endings, but it was still farfetched. This is self-published so there were a lot of mistakes throughout, but they weren’t that bad and only occurred every now and then. I’m definitely interested in the series and I’ll be checking out Reyes’s other works.

Cover Thoughts: I think the cover is cute and the guy on the cover is actually pretty cute. I like it. It’s cute and fluffy just like the book.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Forever Mine Prequel
It was a cute prequel. Nothing all that great and nothing terrible. Not the best short story I’ve read, but certainly not the worst. It was a good insight into Sydney and Sarah’s friendship.
You can read the prequel on Elizabeth's blog here
Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Onyx (Lux, #2)
Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Second in the Lux series
5 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There may be spoilers from Obsidian in here. You have been warned.
Katy and Daemon Black are connected and it sucks. Daemon has decided he wants to be with Katy and she’s determined to make sure it doesn’t happen. After all of the things he did to her she isn’t going to be with him just because of a “connection”. But it’s harder said than done. Bigger problems are arising for both Katy and Daemon. The Department of Defense is lurking about the town and bad things could happen if they found out Katy knew about the Luxen. There’s a new guy in school whose harboring secrets and could be the key to helping Katy find out what’s wrong with her. Secrets are starting to unravel and more mysteries are piling up. No one is safe and everyone is hiding something. I have to say that Onyx was a better than Obsidian. I absolutely loved Obsidian, but I loved Onyx just as much. I finished this book a week ago, but do to a busy schedule I’m finally reviewing it. This book was addicting. I read the whole thing in less than eight hours. That’s a whole school day! Accomplishments! I haven’t read like that in ages. It felt so good to find a book that addictive, heart pounding, captivating, and just awesome. I absolutely loved Onyx and I thought it was just awesome.
The main female character is Katy. I still love Katy. She’s still one of my favorite heroines ever, but she’s lost major points for sheer stupidity. One of the big twists in this book wasn’t at all a twist for me because I saw it coming from a mile away. I’m not stupid although there were some aspects that I found shocking. I don’t think Katy should’ve been all that surprised though. I still love Katy though, but this made me struggle with her character for the longest time in this book. Blake was obviously abusing you not training you, but she was too gung-ho on being able to control her powers, which were already in control by the point that things were going way too far. I think a Katy lost major bonus points (get it?) throughout this book. She redeemed herself towards the end by realizing all the dumb decisions she made, but what happened could’ve been avoided if she listened to Daemon and stopped being stubborn.
Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 9.5
The main male character is Daemon. I still love Daemon.
In fact I love him even more. That cookie scene. *swoons* Daemon Black could abduct me any day. I loved him a lot more in this book and even when I wanted to hate him I couldn’t. When Daemon isn’t around this book is boring.
Swoon Worthy Scale: My Scale is still in recovery from Obsidian, but it’s even more broken. It’ll be on break for a while!
The Villain- The first villain was obvious and we all knew it was going to be (view spoiler)
Villain Scale: 9
Dee is still awesome, but I hated how Katy put her on the back burner. It pissed me off. I’m still shocked about who (view spoiler) I just, I can’t deal. It’s so hard to accept it, especially since I really liked him too. So much sadness is to come. I have a feeling there will be a lot of blame going on towards Katy in Opal.
Character Scale: 9
This book was shocking, exciting, gripping, and amazing.
A summary of my thoughts in gifs:
and Just because I fucking love Asking Alexandria and they make me laugh.
I love the Lux series! Jennifer L. Armentrout is now one of my favorite authors and I loved this book. I hate second books because most books suffer from second book syndrome, but not Onyx. Onyx was amazing and even better. I need Opal! I shall own this book ASAP! But closer to Origins release date so I don’t have to suffer for too long.
Cover Thoughts: I don’t like this cover as much as Obsidian, but Daemon does look incredibly sexy (as always) and the background is purple. I love purple and Daemon so it’s a win situation here.
Andy and Danny. ♥♥
Predictions are right!
I'm really obsessed with Bryan Stars interviews. I'm going to go watch some now and stop posting more gifs on this review.
Blog Tour: The Last Storm by Tim Lebbon
 Hello, everyone! Today I am a part of the blog tour for Tim Lebbon's new and upcoming 2022 release, THE LAST STORM. The Last Storm will...
