Seize the Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Seize the Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Sixth in the Dark-Hunter series
5 stars
Valerius Magnus is used to being alone. When he was alive he was alone and being a Dark-Hunter is worse because most Dark-Hunters are Greek and he is Roman. Tabitha Deveraux is known around New Orleans as the crazy vampire slayer, but when her twin sister, Amanda, married a Dark-Hunter. The family didn’t think she was crazy anymore. The last thing Tabitha’s family wants is for her to get involved with Valerius, but it’s easier said than done and now the evil in New Orleans is heating up again and it doesn’t feel like it usually does. I had low expectations for Valerius’s novel. I know low expectations for a Kenyon novel is like a sin for me because I’m such a fan of her work. Some would say I deserved to be slapped for this doubt.
I wasn’t a big fan of Valerius in the other novels, but Valerius has won me over and landed a place in my Dark-Hunter Hall of Fame of Amazing Guys. I don’t know why I was so hesitant to pick up this novel, but I’m glad I got over it and picked Seize the Night up.
The main female character is Tabitha. I had always liked Tabitha in the other books and I’m glad she got her own book to shine in. Tabitha is pure awesomeness. She’s funny, cool, and she can kick your butt every day of the week. Tabitha is probably one of my favorite Dark-Hunter heroines.
Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 10
The main male character is Valerius. Valerius has won me over and like I said earlier is now in my Dark-Hunter Hall of Fame of Amazing Guys. Valerius is a great hero. He and Tabitha make a great team. Valerius always seemed like a jerk, but he was just trying to help and he always felt bad in the end. I felt bad for him. He was another tortured hero in the SK world, but he was a good one.
Isn't he hot?
Swoon Worthy Scale: 9.5
The Villain- Stryker… nuff said. If you’ve read the other DH books you’ll know who I’m talking about.
Villain Scale: 7.5
I’m so glad that Valerius and Zarek’s relationship is getting better. Marla… I loved Marla. She (or he depending on you) added funness to all the serious of the novel. Otto is one of my favorite Squires, he had me laughing so hard I almost shed a tear.
Character Scale: 9
The action was intense and just great. I shed some tears at the end of this novel, but I still love the DH world and Kenyon has yet to disappoint me.
Cover Thoughts: Valerius is sexy… I love the cover and that’s all I have to say.
