Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon
First in The League series
5 stars
In the Ichidian Universe, the League and their ruthless assassins rule. Expertly trained and highly valued, League Assassins are the backbone of the government. Assassin Nykyrian Quickiades was highly valued by the League for being known as one of the best and fiercest assassins until he turned his back on them. Nykyrian refused to kill a target and for that he’s on the run. No one has succeeded in killing him and he has a bounty on his head that could feed twelve families. Now he must protect princess, Kiara Zamir. Kiara must entrust her life in the same kind of monster that killed her mother and left her for dead. This was the book that started my Sherrilyn Kenyon obsession. I had been hoping to read the Dark- Hunter series, but they didn’t have Fantasy Lover or Night Pleasures. They did have the first three League novels, which I went home with. This book is amazing and I don’t understand why it’s not as popular as her Dark-Hunter novels (which I also fangirl over). Nykyrian and Kiara’s relationship was fun to read about and I was never bored. The Inchidian Universe was interesting. I’m not a fan of sci-fi, but this was definitely something I would watch on TV if it was a TV show. Sherrilyn Kenyon has knack for making interesting stories, characters, and her writing just sucks you in.
The main female character is Kiara. I like Kiara and she’s perfect for Nykyrian. Kiara had to deal with a lot in this book, but she kept going even when I would have given up.
Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 8
The main male character is Nykyrian. I love his name it’s fun to say. Nykyrian was such a great male lead and I want to talk about him, but if I start talking about him I’m not going to stop and I’ll give away spoilers.
Swoon Worthy Scale: 9.5
The Villain- Multiple villains just the way I like it.
Villain Scale: 8.5
Character Scale: 9
This book really sealed the deal for my love for SK novels and I’m so glad I read this book and strayed from my comfort zone. I definitely recommend this book.
Cover Thoughts: I like the cover, but the guy doesn’t seem to be as lethal as Nykyrian is described. But I do like this cover a lot more than the other ones that I’ve seen for this book.
