Bloodlines by Richelle Mead
Bloodlines by Richelle Mead
First in the Bloodlines series
5 stars
We met Sydney Sage in the Vampire Academy series and she became an ally to Rose. Sydney is an alchemist who is still walking on thin ice for help Rose Hathaway when she was suspected of murdering the Moroi queen. When her father wakes her up in the middle of the night, she thinks she will be sent away for re-education, but she is assigned with protecting Lissa Dragomir’s younger sister, Jill. Sydney is sent off to Palm Springs, California to attend a human school, where she meets strange people and has to try and be normal. After finishing the Vampire Academy series I was at a loss, but I decided to pick of Bloodlines, even though I was weary of it because of the mixed reviews. I actually really liked this book. Richelle Mead can create a world that sucks me in and won’t let me out until the very end. This book isn’t as good as the Vampire Academy books, but it’s only the first book in the series and I’m sure it’ll get better. The biggest problem for me was the lack of romance for Sydney. Sydney was left alone until the very end, while Jill is parading around with her entourage of boys who hopelessly adore her.
The main female character is Sydney. A lot of people complain that she’s no Rose, well of course she’s not Rose her name is Sydney. Sydney isn’t supposed to be Rose or resemble Roe, that’s what makes her Sydney. I liked Sydney and I think her fears and worries are real and she’s a some-what relatable character.
Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 7
The main male character isn’t established yet, but we all know that it’s Adrian. I wasn’t on a fan of Adrian in the VA series, but I did feel bad for him in Last Sacrifice. I’m liking Adrian a lot more in Bloodlines.
Swoon Worthy Scale: 8
The Villain- I’m not giving away who’s the villain and what they did.
Villain Scale: 7.5
Character Scale: 9
I really enjoyed Bloodlines and I’m writing an update review since I’m currently reading The Golden Lily.
*squeals in fan girl excitement* I’ll probably re-review the VA series, too. I’m not sure when, but I would like to do that sometime in the near future.
Cover Thoughts: The cover is really pretty and Adrian is super hot (at least I think that’s who the guy is supposed to be). I like the background color and I think it just gives off a really cool dramatic effect.
