The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead
The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead
Second in the Bloodlines series
5 stars
Sydney Sage is back and so are the vamps I’ve come to love. Sydney is a brainy alchemist charged with watching over Moroi princess Jill Dragomir along with Eddie and their new recruit Angeline, in the sunny Palm Springs, California at Amberwood Prep. Sydney learned recently that she has the ability to wield magic. Magic she’s strongly against and afraid of. As Sydney starts to feel like a normal teenager she’s met with challenges that could make or break her. I liked The Golden Lily a lot, but not as much as Bloodlines. It was a lot harder for me to get into which is weird ‘cause I’m a huge fan of the VA and Bloodlines books, but it eventually had and held my attention which is why it’s five stars. A lot happens in this book and there is so much drama that I know shall occur in The Indigo Spell (which needs to hurry up and be released so I can get my hands on it).
The main female character is once again Sydney. Sydney changed a lot in this book. Someone finally told her to stop staring herself because she’s not going to look like Jill ever, which I commend them because I was getting tired of her no sweets diet. She is not as afraid of magic, but she still fears it. But at the same time that I like her I’m still sad about the ending. :’( For this she loses half a star on awesomeness. She could’ve been an eight.
Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 7.5
The main male character is Adrian. I love Adrian now. I wasn’t a big fan of him in the VA books, but I now love him. Adrian is starting to mature, but he’s still witty and snarky. Just the way I like him.
Swoon Worthy Scale: 9
The Villain- We’re introduced to a new type of villain. The kind of group that Sydney had dismissed as fake and crazy talk. I’m looking forward to the future and seeing where this group is going.
Villain Scale: 7
Jill is less annoying in this book. Angeline was hilarious; I really like her. Eddie is still well Eddie. Trey is shown a lot more in this one. Brayden was a complete idiot (I don’t care if he’s Einstein he’s still an idiot IMO) and I don’t know what Sydney saw in the loser. Ms. Terwilliger is funny. Dimitri was in here… I love him.
Character Scale: 8
I also had the pleasure of getting to read the first chapter of The Indigo Spell and it was amazing. Thank you Walmart for this exclusive. Now I’m anxiously waiting for the next book.
Cover Thoughts: I really like this cover, but why does Sydney look mad/anxious? I like this cover more than Bloodlines, but I would have liked it even more if Adrian was on it.
